Spectators turn out as Wedge riders get thrill with hurricane surf – Orange County Register

The crowds showed up to cheer and the wave-riders got a thrill as a hurricane and south swell building Tuesday, July 11, brought the masses out to the Wedge in Newport Beach.

It wasn’t big by Wedge standards – which can reach 30-foot on its largest days – but the modest surf brought a buzz to the beach at the stretch of sand just north of the Newport Beach harbor jetty.
