Although all of the human residents and many of their pets were successfully evacuated from the structure, the fire resulted in the smoke inhalation deaths of two cats and a dog, which a firefighter tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate. Another firefighter also received a minor burn fighting the blaze, and the building itself was heavily damaged.
