The outstanding season Howell High School had last winter has resulted in  another award for Howell High School head wrestling coach John Gagliano.

Gagliano, was named the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Head Coach of the Year for New Jersey, the NWCA has announced.

Howell won the NJSIAA Group V championship for its first state group wrestling championship, the Shore Conference Tournament for the second time in the last four seasons and second time ever and had its first state individual champion since 2008 and just its third ever when Eric Keosseian pinned Don Bosco Prep’s Peter Acciardi in the 220-pound state final at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City.

The Rebels also had a state finalist in Kyle Slendorn at 126 pounds and a state seventh-place finisher in Darby Diedrich (120). They also had a school-record four region champions and eight District 22 champions
