Jharkhand Class 12 result: Girls outperform boys; pass percentage dips in science, commerce | education$high-school

Girls trumped boys in the Jharkhand class 12 board exam results for science and commerce declared on Tuesday. However, boys outperformed girls in the class 10 board exams, the result of which was declared on the same day.

In science as well as commerce, the pass percentage dipped compared to last year. Out of the 90,871 examinees in science, 47,589 passed the exams, securing a pass percentage of 52.36%. In commerce, out of the 47,622 students, 28,618 passed, achieving a pass percentage of 60.09%.

Last year, the pass percentage in science was 58.36% and in commerce it was 62.94%. In 2010, the state witnessed the lowest pass percentage of 30.33% in science. The lowest in commerce till date is 51.27% in 2011.

A total of 65,953 boys appeared for the science exams and 34,110 passed, taking the pass percentage to 51.71%. Out of the 24,918 girls, 13,479 passed, achieving a pass percentage of 54.09%.

In Commerce, 15,012 of the 28,123 boys passed the exam, and 13,606 of 19,499 girls passed. The pass percentage for girls was 69.77% against 53.37% of boys.

Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) chairperson Arvind Singh said the performance of students was satisfactory, but they needed to strive hard for better performance in the years to come.

This year, the exams started on February 19 and concluded on March 7 amidst strict security measures as many of the exam centres fell in Maoist-hit areas of the tribal state. The exams, however, witnessed a few cases of students using unfair means and reported paper leaks, which were addressed.

On April 11, Jharkhand police busted an exam racket with the arrest of a middleman who was carrying answer sheets from homes of two intermediate examinees for submission at the examination centre in Bokaro.

On March 3, six Ranchi students were caught writing exams in a small room instead of the examination hall.
