I love Wonder Woman. I grew up with Wonder Woman. As a child of the late ’70s/early ’80s, my Wonder Woman was Lynda Carter, and she was AWESOME!
I was obsessed with Wonder Woman. I wanted to be Wonder Woman! I still remember running around with my Wonder Woman licensed Underoos and an old yellow ribbon (it was my golden lasso of truth). I’d spend afternoons blasting around the yard in my invisible jet, fighting crime and spinning in circles, pretending to flash-change into my costume.
When I turned 4 I got a Wonder Woman swimsuit, and I wore that thing until it literally fell apart.
When I was 5 years old I actually met Wonder Woman. My sister had been invited to a birthday party where Wonder Woman and Strawberry Shortcake were entertainers, and when we picked my sister up, they were still there.
I remember how disappointed I was that I wasn’t coincidentally wearing my Wonder Woman Underoos. Wonder Woman was very understanding and told me being Wonder Woman was more than just the costume … it came from inside too.
Strawberry Shortcake tried to pass on wisdom as well, but I wasn’t listening to her. To me, Wonder Woman was everything.
And now, finally, after all those years of waiting … we’re getting a feature film all about Wonder Woman! While my swimsuit might be long gone and those Underoos (thankfully) long retired, my heart races with excitement and anticipation as I count down the days.
To celebrate, I’m sharing with you all my Wonder Woman-inspired berry pie.
