25-plus acres burning on Camp Pendleton, no homes threatened – Orange County Register

CAMP  PENDLETON – Firefighters were attempting to douse a wildfire Tuesday evening that had burned 25 to 30 acres on this expansive U.S. Marine Corps base, said Capt. Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority.

The OCFA received a call for assistance about a fire east of Cristianitos Road at 3:30 p.m. The county fire agency is assisting Camp Pendleton firefighters. About 50 firefighters, with the help of helicopters, are on the scene, Kurtz said.

“No homes are being threatened, and the cause of the fire is under investigation,” Kurtz said.

Kurtz said firefighters are setting up a perimeter to control the blaze.

Last month, firefighters contained a 760-acre are on the base.
